You will know how debilitating back pain can be - whether it is an acute episode or chronic condition. The effects of back pain can be devastating not just for the person living with the problem, but also for their family, friends and carers. The simplest chores and activities from shopping to walking may become impossible. Constant physical pain can impact on an individual's emotional well-being. People living with a chronic condition may become depressed, and in some cases driven to suicide to escape the pain! The cost to the NHS, business and the economy is an estimated ?5 billion per year. However, good back pain treatment remains patchy and individuals rarely receive speedy attention and the treatment needed to prevent acute episode becoming a chronic problem. This website is designed to help you to understand more about BackCare and the issues surrounding back pain. The site also provides, facts, information on tips for a healthier back and specialist resources. We hope you will find our website useful, and that you will want to become a member of BackCare, make a donation or work with us in some other way in order to help reduce the incidence and impact of back pain.
