PROTESTORS QUIT MINE SITE

PROTESTORS QUIT MINE SITE....

PROTESTORS who have been holed-up on a UK COAL owned surface mine site for the past two weeks, quit last night....just hours before a Court ordered them to leave.

The protestors had dug in on the Blair House site near Oakley in Fife as preparation work began for the recovery of 720,000 tonnes of coal under a project approved by Fife Council last year.

A Sheriffs Court hearing in Dunfermline earlier in the week was adjourned until today to allow the protestors to make legal representations.

But after a week of rain, snow, heavy winds, visits by the police, UK COAL officials and the National Eviction Officer, the protestors de-camped...and were last seen heading south over the Forth road bridge to warmer climes.

[] Protestors on the Huntington Lane mine site near Telford say they will dig to fight plans to evict them. They told the local media there will be people in tunnels, in holes in the ground and up trees, adding: “We will be providing UK COAL with a list of demands. They will be reasonable – we are not here to cause trouble, not be aggravating.  We want to be cooperative.”
