Anyone know what is happening as far as litagation for beat knee?
Posted by: CJRK at time: 18/10/2010 18:01
There is nothing happening with regard to litigation for beet knee, Some Areas of the NUM are funding litigation for Osteoarthritis of the knee.
Posted by: Worksop Solid at time: 20/10/2010 16:12
Thanks for the clarification CJRK. Can I rephrase the question and ask what is happening as far as Osteoarthritis is concerned? Any offers Durham Mechanics? Last I heard was that the case was at Leeds Court.

We have £100.00 to send to Chile Miners but want to make sure it all gets to them or their families, dont want it wasted on red tape, any ideas?
Posted by: Ronald Curran at time: 23/10/2010 22:53
Why not sent direct to the president of Chile who took a very personal interest in every man who was trapped and their family. I am sure his name would ensure results.

Pensions
Upto July 2010 the CPI is running at 3.1% the RPI is 4.8%
So linking to CPI gives a big loss to pensioners typically MPS pensioners. The main difference between the two is that the RPI includes housing costs such as mortgage interest payments and council tax. Over the last twenty years CPI has only been higher than the RPI three times in the last 20 years. Smell a RAT?
We have been let down by all governments in the last 40 years by not planning for a shorter working week over that period of time with a weekly living wage allowance that kept everyone out of poverty.
One day all working people will believe Arthur was right.

Cannock Chase Retired Miners and Officials Association.... DAILY EXPRESS,( a Tory paper.) FRONT PAGE HEADINES.- The effect that the change from RPI - to CPI calculations will have on pensions.!!!!. Millions will be paid a lower pension " Over the long - term ". If this legislation is introduced it will rob our trustees of the right to decide how best our increases are calculated. At the moment the tory Gov`t; say this will be "Optional". We ask, how long before " Optional " becomes " Compulsory ?". This should be challenged by all M.P`s, Trustees and Unions and is something that our mining group of M.P`s and Ed Miliband should immediately condemn.

Guest Book,
After watching my local MP (con) for Nuneaton/Bedworth telling the House on the Equitable Life Pension collapse, that……
“We have to show that we are the party which supports those hard-working people and, in the next few weeks, we should commit to ensuring that Equitable Life members get the compensation that they truly deserve. That would help to restore confidence in our pension system. “
After watching this debate I started asking questions, including the Cannock Chase retired miners organisation, to enable me to write a letter to my MP asking if his reward, in certain terms, means that the hard working miners deserve that their pension pot being robbed to the tune of £4bn to a projected £8bn over 25yrs.
Comrade “ MPS FRAUD “ I can imagine that the post you have below may be a dig at others, I can imagine that National, Area, and local NUM Sec's share the same view but do not wish to post on here rather than campaign elsewhere.
“MPS FRAUD " Please do not think that your voice is going unheard !!
Thanks Russ !!

Russ I was the founder member (chairman) of the Cannock Chase Retired Miners in 2000.
The Pension Rip Off is history mate, 16 years too late. But hear this Russ, in 1987 Thatcher had British Coal impliment a Miners pensions contributions holiday, the money they saved paid out our redundancies. This was overlooked by your trustees, then they took 50% of your investement surpluses in 1994, this was used to pay compensation claims for Vibration White finger and Bronchitis. This is still to this day overlooked. But Why ? ask Mick Westwood. The Introduction of the CPI to replace the RPI is another way to take from you. MPS pension fraud is now at it's peak, as STANDSTILL is implimented.
But your trustees have [ at my last visit } their £15,000 per year, authorised by the Secratary of State no less.
Tom

Good to see that present NUM secretaries are using the Staffordshire Miners Cannock Chase Retired Miners and Officials Association as the hub for protecting MPS pension and following up and pressing for a change with the MPS grievance.

RPI - CPI.! Cannock Chase Retired Miners and Officials Association. Some details are emerging to tell us the effect that the change to CPI will have on pensioners and pension schemes.: National Pensions Convention, " Old - age pensions will be at least 7.4% worse off. " Forces Pensions Society," Our members will suffer an average loss of 12% of pensions value ". NASUWT ( Teachers union ) " A teacher with an annual pension of £10,000 could lose " a staggering " £74,000 over 25years ". These are the figures, - and that is how serious it is. It will be interesting to see what next weeks TUC Conference has to say about it.?

Good to see the NUM leadership are opposing the 'Pension Theft' being created by the Government who are attempting to change from RPI to CPI for pension calculations reported in a local Barnsley newspaper and its a chronicle.
It is also noted that existing MPS pension rules does not allow for this.
This will be opposed by all working and retired people
Posted by: Pensions at time: 14/08/2010 08:38
How will the CPI and RPI affect MPS payments?
Surely the trustees will be compelled to pay the RPI rates.
If not this should be challenged in the Courts.
Along with the ongoing Tory pension theft.

Cannock Chase Retired Miners and Officials Association.
The recent reports regarding the Tory proposals to alter the way our pensions are calculated should send a shiver down the spine of every old - age pensioner and any other person in this country who has, or expects to receive ANY pension in the future. Either from the state, their employer or by personal contribution, EVERY pension will be rated on the lower CPI rate, rather than the higher RPI and will leave all of us considerably worse off, while at the same time putting more of our own money back into the Government`s coffers.
As miners and to us and our widows it will be a "Triple whammy ". Like all pension funds are subject to the "Gordon Brown " rule, that taxes all pension funds to the tune of £5 bn a year - and our miners pension funds have already had to surrender £4.4 bn as part of a 50% profits " agreement ". Now we have this latest " Tory theft " that will reduce our standard of living even lower.
We have bailed out the banks to create the corporate bonus and while they celebrate, we must suffer.
This is Cameron`s "Poll - tax " moment and it should be given the same treatment as was handed out to Thatcher when she tried to screw us all.
This association has called upon our relevant unions, - NUM and NACODS, and the trustees of our two pension funds, MPS and BCSSS to instigate immediate action within the European Court of Human Rights to challenge the possible imposition of this legislation.
Posted by: Thomas Christopher at time: 01/10/2010 15:46
Reply to Mr Westwood
It is unfortunate that the MPS and the BCSSS schemes, plus the two Unions NUM and NACODS left it too late. You were warned.
Now the European Courts is the only chance, but tread carefully and skilfuly my friend.
A management union is looking at you.

Back in 1957 i was a lad who started working in the colliery screens, one day a meeting was called and all day shift workers had mustered below the 18ft drift,A lodge member addressed the meeting,(i cant remember what it was exactly)but this man,a Mr Dick Beamish,i recall his name, gave such a heart felt talk and the united response from the workers was unforgettable, not a man jack went against the vote, everyone was committed in improving the work place and pay.and as the year and a half passed, and found myself at 16 1/2 working on a hand got, timber supported face on my own stent,i then realised how unity meant strength, and the fight to maintain a decent living was far from being won,Today i read and i am in total despair that this once great movement has dwindled to a Oliver Twist type character that goes cap in hand to the government (labour) the party who was born out of the misery of working men,to work for the working classes,to maintain some sort of civility, and pride,in the industrial work place.these M.Ps who have disgraced the very word Labour, had the Gaul to refuse, what they promised in opposition that they would right the wrong that another government had the done to the miners pension scheme.
This money belongs to the miners, and no other, there has got to be a concerted effort to reverse this situation now, there must be a way to tackle this, without stooping to the government current or the bigots in opposition.

Is there any truth in a rumour I have heard that the union has a test case going to try and claim general compensation for miners knee,as happened with the VWF claims.
Posted by: bobby clelland at time: 08/09/2010 17:39
yes its true. some of the area unions have a court action regarding osteoarthritis of the knee and so far it has cost £2 million, sadly the National Union has refused to support the court case, which if successful could benefit all affected miners, the Question should be asked why is it that the National Union is not helping with the court cost's, surely the monies which the National union have should be used to benefit those who contributed to their funds, ie the membership of the NUM.

Thx for your reply Bobby.I don`t believe the Notts NUM are supporting the court case either. What will this mean ultimately, should the action be successful? Will I still be able to make a claim even though my area union didn`t financially support the action?
Posted by: bobby clelland at time: 29/09/2010 20:24
Hi Andy, I understand that the Notts Area NUM are not in a financial position, (unlike the National Union)to help finance the court case. until the judge comes to a conclusion it is to me difficult to predict how the claim process will evolve if successful. in the meantime all those who meet the 10 year work criteria and who have disabilities caused by their Osteoarthritis should claim through Jobcentresplus (DWP )
