Can I just say how fantastic Durham Miners' Gala was this year. Thanks to everyone who organised, spoke and attended. It was a fitting memorial for everyone who has worked in the mining industry.

Hi, Can I recommend the book 'Wallsend Best' by Ronald Curran. It tells the history, up to closure, of the Rising Sun Colliery, Wallsend. It certainly brought a lot of memories back to me 40 years on.

Dear Mr Lavery, I wonder if you can help me locate an important piece of mining history? The "Yorkshire Horse" was the second commercially successful steam locomotive in the world - after "Salamanca" at the Middleton Colliery in Yorkshire. It was built in Wigan in 1813 and started operations on the Orrell Coalfield in Winstanley in 1813. One of the local miners, Eli Banks, built a model of the Yorkshire Horse in the 1930s and it was put on display in the Miners' Home in Bispham for many years. Now it has disappeared. I have contacted Persimmon Homes, the developer of the Admiral Point apartments at the Miners' Home and they know nothing about it. Is there any way you can help me to track it down? I know the Miners' Home was owned by the Lancashire and North Staffordshire Miners Association. I may be giving a presentation on the subject at an early railway conference in Caernarfon in 2012 and in Brussels in 2010. I would very much appreciate any help you can provide. Sincereley.
