Thanks for the messages below and they are really helpfull, but as per the original question, it sounds like the reponse is, it adds towards a % for Industrial disablement benifit, but is there a claim against the NCB/British Coal for the miners knee complaint ?? Its just that Former miners have asked me and i cannot answer them, other than point them in the direction of N.U.M. Branches and the Job Centre plus websites, Cheers, Russ !!

Russ Guy if you put a search on for Industrial disablement bands mine came up with all the information you need about percent disablement in appendices categories of disablement type A14, A1 etc. in alpha-numeric order
From the DWP website cut and paste this link if that fails
http://www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-guides/technical-guidance/db1-a-guide-to-industrial-injuries/appendix/appendix-1/

Reguarding the Knee claims, does the claiment, if successfull get awarded any compensation or is it just a % assesment to add to other work related injuries to help push toward a figure to recieve a disablement pension. Cheers Russ Guy !!

Very interesting meeting at Salford this afternoon in The Working Class Movement Library
Granville Williams talked about several issues around that era and urged people to back the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting FREEDOM. Everyone who was involved in that dispute will be left in no doubt that we were involved in a class war which is now more evident for those doubters. It is essential that the youth of today and the Neu Liberalist approach of government is made aware of why we now have an impoverished working class Britain and the need to UNITE to address this. Anyone who missed todays event should note that a re-run is taking place on Wednesday November 25th, 1.15 p.m. in The Green Room, Media and Journalism Building University of Huddersfield, Queensgate, Huddersfield HD1 3DH
You may also purchase the book 'SHAFTED' and have it signed by the Editor Granville Williams as I did today in Salford. See you there!

re chris skidmores request.
i was a coal face electrician for 27yrs up until the pit closed-have had problems with my knees for years really, cracking stiffness aching the problems i am sure lots of comrades suffer from.i recieved a 10% assessment for the knees,5% for vbf + a 4% assessment some years ago for an accident in which i damaged my back.total of 19% which they rounded up to 20% hence a payment.hope this will help-encourage others to pursue their claims dont sit back just because you have no medical history with your doctor or hospital-i didnt! just accepted that it was an occupational hazzard par for the course, we deserve compensating for our years of faithfull service to the industry.people need to get their claims in it costs you nothing only time.best of luck.

Could I please ask NOSKRALC to post his % disability & his condition & possibly his job spec. Not because I am nosey or because I am a snooper from the DWP! We need to build up a dossier of information so we can appeal decisions for members who do not receive a % assessment Thanking you in anticipation C.Skidmore Yorks Area NUM Chairman

I would like to reiterate Jon Jewitt’s plea (see below) where Jon asks for help in raising funds for the Willie Gallacher Monument in Paisley. Willie Gallacher was a true champion of the workers and his work in both the west and the east of Scotland, fighting to improve the working conditions of millworkers and then miners is legendary. I know the Memorial Trust will be pleased to accept all donations however small or large. Please make donations to "Gallacher Monument Appeal†c/o Sma\'Shot Cottages, 11/17 George Place, Paisley, Scotland.

I am sorry to hear about your problems Roy in must be really difficult doing your line of work when you are suffering from VWF,i can only imagine the struggle you must have holding your truncheon in cold weather. As for your witnesses Roy it is odd that you are having problems finding them with you being a policeman I would have thought this would be easy. Perhaps you might try looking in HMP because as you know thousands of miners were framed and sent to jail in 1984/1985

Not wanting to sound too critcal but when are we going to see some information about pits that are still working? Neither our "Miner Magazine" or this site alludes to them. If we are trying to gain investment for the industry(& access the "vast reserves "of coal this nation is built upon)surely that would be a good "portfolio" to build upon? I am sure that current miners will be interested in what is happening in other coalfields, anyone agree or it just me being "old fashioned"? I personally would like to know what the possibilities are of accessing these reserves before we get too old!!!

Dear Editor I have viewed the info posted on the website concerning OsteoArthritis of the Knee, can I suggest that if you are unsure when giving advice to people who need our help you ensure that it is accurate in the future.

Couple of pounds of Taties (Potatoes)
Chopped onion
Carrot
Leek
Stewing steak (or left of Sunday roast)
Oxo or bisto gravy mix
Bring to the boil and simmer for a couple of hours.

Margo have a look at the direct.gov.uk website for social funding loans.
You do not state the reason why you became homeless and pennyless

Dear readers, I am currently compiling information about the affect of pit closures in the local areas of Northumberland, the mining towns and villages from the north of the Tyne to the Tweed and from the coast to Hadrians Wall in the west. This would include unemployment, and resulting difficulties to obtain new employment, the affect on local shops and busineses, household budgets, future holidays and changes in the environment as a direct result of colliery land being re-used. Also the closing down of Miners Welfare Clubs or Working Men’s Clubs, and pubs. Also the recreational facilities such as leek shows, football teams, Juvenile Jazz Bands, Christmas parties, anything connected with the social life of mining families as a direct result of the closures, and some idea of the dates. One prime example I believe would be the amount of working Men’s/Miners Clubs closed at Ashingtom, famed for the number of such clubs on the main street. Also, if at all possible, the number or approximate number of men who transferred to Yorkshire and/or the Midlands. I hope to publish a book on this important subject, to highlight the devastation caused by this political decision. receive personal experiences, and or photographs, which will be returned as soon as possible.
And Oblige
