To answer your question. I have e-mailed invitations to Messrs Lavery, Stanley and Kitchen as well as leaving phone messages for them. Similarly Mr. Scargill at SLP site.

I deleted something from my post in error. It should have read -
If my comments, as chief organiser, seem frustrated it's because as the working class people's chief representatives at the time I believe The NUM have a right to attend and that given that I have made polite, formal invitations, though it is usual and courteous practice to provide acknowledgements - regardless of whether you can attend or not, sadly this hasn't happened with your union.

I have just heard that this union is recruitin miners from poland to take the place of miners at Maltby colliery, please tell me that it is not true?
Posted by: deano at time: 18/02/2010 19:30
sos...the union does not recruit anyway, the mine owners take care of that surely???who starts these pathetic rumors???
Posted by: steve mace at time: 20/02/2010 11:23
Dear Deano,
If mine owners have been taking care of recruitment they have certainly been making an horrible mess of it the industry has been decimated by them. Because they work on a quick profit and only for profit basis we are facing an energy crisis that has seen many firms blacked out in recent weeks.
Does the mine owner’s recruitment drive include the closing of the Selby coalfield and other pits around the country that should still be open? It was our union, and our union alone that did everything it could to save the mining industry and the jobs it represented and we were hampered at the time by those who ran the industry doing all in their power, including intimidation, to encourage our members to scab.
What a strange recuitment drive the owners are carrying out at Corus steelworks, more of a de-recruitment drive similar to the one carried out in the mining industry.

Have you written to the National Secretary officially to ask for someone to attend this debate. That is the official channel not the Website.

I was just thinking how much The Iraq War Inquiry is going to cost us and what, if any, will be the repercussions. Will any "leaders" be prosecuted? Imprisoned? Fat chance. We're having an expensive farce played out in front of our eyes, the conclusions of which we all knew at the beginning. When did the inquiry into The Miners' Strike take place? An episode in the UK's recent past that wiped out whole communities lock stock and barrel. When has there ever been a chance to put the politicians of the time under the spotlight? Never. Why? Perhaps because it's far too convenient for the ruling classes to keep the working classes in their place. When the "government" broke The NUM's back it proceeded to decimate working class communities. The debate that takes place on Wed 3rd is a chance for working class people - all affected by The Miners' Strike in one way or another to have their say about its effects over the last 25 years on ordinary people's lives - whether you agree with Scargill or not. If my comments, as chief organiser, seem frustrated its because as the working class people's chief representatives at the I believe it is usual and courteous to acknowledge invitations - regardless of whether you can attend or not. Sadly this hasn't happened with your union.

How much bonus were the civil servants in the Treasury paid, for advising the Minister NOT to re - negotiate the Miners pensions issue with the NUM leaders.?
This Government have once again betrayed us.

I made a film 25 years ago during the Miners'Strike, mostly with Bold and Sutton Manor striking miners in St Helens,Lancs. I would very much like to come in contact again with the miners and the miners' wives I met then, especially Dennis Pennington, Ged, Lorraine, Scotter and all those who remenber us...we were two french women around thirty,Dominique and Anne-Marie, with an enormous orange video equipment. We came to South Wales as well, in March, 1985,and visited The Furnacyte, a place where only one man was working, called Paul Watson. We were with Maggie Newell there. If you can help me finding people we met then in both places, I would be very grateful.

Dear Wayne, we have been friends for a long time and it seems strange to me that you, as an NEC member should chose this forum to debate this issue. I do not interpret the contributions in the way you do. It is not an easy task to decide what is fair comment and what is not in all cases without being accused of censorship. As I said previously you have my contact details and could have raised any concerns you have in a less public way. The fact that you chose to use the Guest Book could, if I did not know you better, lead me to question why you do not raise these issues with me directly rather than publically given our friendship.

There seems to be some misunderstanding and I apologise for that.
This website NUM.org.uk was established by the NATIONAL Union of Mineworkers (Which is based in Barnsley, UK)authorised and paid for through the National Executive Committee.
The National Executive Committee have not authorised or sanctioned ANY deductions from compensation payments anywhere within the UK.
My comments are made in relation to clarifying the involvemenmt of the NATIONAL UNION. My point is that the editor should have picked this up prior to publication. As part of the NEC he should have been aware of this distinction.
It is not intended to criticise individuals who went through their regional NUM advisers.

NUM Yorkshire Area NUM.org.uk (I will ask for some clarity on that)I live in Yorkshire. Do you mean the above re-Website? If so I am referring to National Union Of Mineworkers which is an organisation in the U.K. If you search NUM you get USA,S.Africa and other countries mining unions clarity is .org.uk.
I have also looked up your claim re-Raleys and I am correct I did sign in Yorkshire allowing deductions for a contribution to the NUM (yorkshire). I thought that was in my best interest whether a man with a wig on did is immaterial I have not requested it back from Raleys.
(I am not a union official or attached to anyone posting on this site other than I am an ex member now retired member of the NUM[.org.uk] hope that clarifies it I have not fiddled my contribution to yorkshire NUM subs. just allowed my representative to subscribe for me. Search the internet you will see the details

Editor, the point I was trying to make was that the information that you allowed to be broadcast was misleading. As you attend every NEC meeting you would be fully aware that compensation deductions from awards have never been discussed or agreed to by the NEC. So for this website to encourage the promotin of false information is wrong, surely? I am simply saying that as you are the 'custodian' of this site, that item could be interpreted as money from the deductions were going directly to fund this site. Which to the best of my knowledge is untrue, unless you advise me differently.

Dear Chris, the phrase 'curry favour' has the following definition and would therefore seem appropriate in the article concerned.
curry favor
To seek or gain favour by fawning or flattery.

Sorry Wayne but I do not interpret any contribution in the way you suggest. As an NEC member you have my email address and contact numbers and I would have thought this could be raised and explained via that route.

Ken, news article OFGEM; UK cannot trust energy, 3rd from last paragraph should it realy say CURRY favour?
Posted by: wayne at time: 04/02/2010 23:30
Editor, why have you not clarified the misleading statement that you allowed to bo broadcast on this site of the fact that deductions from compensation went to finance this website. It is very misleading or were the NEC were aware of this fact? please clarify.
