I've never sought to hide my SLP membership.Never wanted to constantly wash dirty linen on this site.I've never been critical of it on regional sites,and never tried to perpetually stifle debate on here.I was initially under the apparent misapprehension that,during the strike and since,we were all 'comrades'.You almost sound like you'd have preferred the UDM/NCB Domino tactics to have prevailed across the Midlands Coalfields?.Have you ever done union-repping in fear of the sack?.The UDM was halted because Arthur Scargill backed us in the face of reciprocity theories from some others(who should,frankly,have known better).In other words I experienced Arthur's loyalty long before the SLP's rebirth.Bloody well live with it!.If you're New Labour and the preferred contact option re eg the MPS scandal by former party bigwigs(divide and rule?),then damned-well come out and say so!.Otherwise let free speech prevail on this site.Perhaps there's enough work to do in the misplaced loyalty stakes?.'Fraid I couldn't live with having to blow hot and cold on issues where the record of this gov't is,quite honestly,appalling.Nick Wroughton.

Nick as an SLP member and obviously proud of it could you answer a question with regard to your party. I was told there was a problem at the SLP conference when it was noted that one man held a card vote that out voted all the other party members. Is that not a dictatorship not a democracy? Is there a discussion board/guest book on the SLP website or is it just a case of no debate do as we say.

A bully? UDM sympathiser? never been threatened with the sack for union work ? The assumption that if you are not in the SLP you cannot be a socialist !! That would be a healthy debate in some of the left wing group meetings that I have attended! Just in case there is any misunderstanding on this NUM website, the National Executive Committee of the NUM, DO NOT SUPPORT THE SLP. And for the record, my comments have NEVER mentioned or criticised Arthur Scargill. Where is the opportunity for open debate or guestbook input on the SLP site for all us SOCIALISTS?

In the absence of a socialist party other than Socialist Labour Party to my knowledge is the reason I put that in my comments not that I am a member of that party. You say that the 'Labour' Party is not perfect Wayne thats why I say that the NUM should re-consider its political fund after the election if we are to attract a more 'In-Tune' Labour party with its potential members and ex-members. I believe thats the way forward you cannot fight from within with both hands tied behind your back te reason why people had to leave.

There cannot be a half socialist party one that uses public with private finance to feather your own cap. At least with a Tory government you know who you are dealing with someone out to make a profit. These 'part owner' schemes for properties and part wages paid for employees schemes and Quango organisitations are about taking your retirement benefits 'upfront'. If you are a socialist vote Socialist Labour Party if you are out for a profit vote Tory because the 0.5 Socialists are neither here or there under the brand New Labour. Something the Unions need to think about during the next parliament when they are giving money to a political party or are they on the same 'bandwagon' 0.5 Socialists. I don't think that the NUM support the Tory, where does it say they do? Also, what a member of the NUM may say does not mean it is the opinion and view for all of its employees but I'd like to see where the NUM support the Tory.

completely agree with cortonwood,we were not tossers and shame on those that didnt support us,,this country has been run into the ground and a big part of that can be laid at the SCABS and the rest who refused to back us......my cortonwood checks are at home,with all my other checks from pits where we were pushed pillar to post..I too was educated by the board,6 years at barnsley and donny tech....i was 5th generation at 'corton',all my family on my dads side worked at the pit.including barrow,swaith main probably edmunds and darley as well as my grandmothers family were from the'dale',including relatives to mr scargill..
