Update regarding the Swansea Valley Miners Appeal Fund. The support and generosity has been overwhelming and indeed humbling. The total raised so far is £885,000 with a closure date to be announced in January 2012. I would like to thank all who have supported these families in so many ways during a very difficult period. Our sincere thanks and appreciation to you all. Regards

lords who wrongly claimed expenses are being allowed to pay them back. If it was benefit claimants or M.P.s with N.U.M. Connections they would get a jail sentence as well. ONe LAW for THEM another for US.

The Kellingley Branch would like to thank the National Officials for attending the special branch meeting held Sunday 11th December, in particular Nicky Wilson (Vice-President / Acting President) who travelled from Scotland on the morning to attend (a 5 hour journey). This was well appreciated by the members present.

My tv sitcom script UP THE DOON, a comedy set in the ex-mining village of Patna in Ayrshire, is available from Amazon. Its main characters are retired miners in their late 60's. My father, grandfather and uncles were all miners. I hope the script might interest, amuse and bring back good memories to miners everywhere. It's dedicated to three mining villages in Ayrshire and to the NUM.

Well Michael it just shows how naive people were about the last government and their involvement with planning for Nuclear. Not only the pensions they reneged on.

Nice to see old colleagues at the 30th. November #Pensions Demo. One of the problems with achieving a fair society is when the Local MP is asking to stop the cuts and Lord Hutton saying his Pensions proposals must be implemented without delay as interpreted on the BBC News Link.

JUST BEEN ON THE HOME PAGE AND READ ABOUT HOW EX-MINERS ARE UNABLE TO CLAIM FOR MINERS KNEE THROUGH LACK OF SUPPORT FROM NUM FUNDING. I WENT TO JOB CENTRE AND ASKED FOR A INDUSTRIAL INJURIES FORM, I FILLD IT IN WAS SENT FOR A MEDICAL AND WAS AWARDED 40% DISABILITY. I DID NOT SEEK LEGAL ADVICE BUT WAS TOLD BY A NACODS MAN.
Posted by: CJRK at time: 05/12/2011 21:06
Dear Brian, I think you have confused the two claims. The NUM supported IIDB for miners knee which is why you have been able to claim and been awarded 40%.

I am curently a member of Backworth Miners Welfare. We used to have a banner displayed, but due to ignorance, it was taken down and folded, which caused the material to tear. Are there any funds available that may assist in repairing the banner?

Always remember the night of the babbling brook when me, Gerry and Kevin Marley spent the night in a Escort Van travelling from Shotts. Never thought it was you when I heard the television news. This is a nightmare for me, so can only imagine what Brenda, your children and family are going through. To the hardest working miner fae Shotts. Love, John Leckie (yer friend always)

Went through 2 strikes in the 70's and won under the leadership of Joe Gormley. Sorry to see an industry decimated as much by Scargill's personal political determination to smash Thatcher as by he own determination to smash him! Good hard working men were mere pawns in the game!

My condolences go out to Gerry Gibson's family. I'm assuming this is the the same Gerry who worked at Stillingfleet? If so good bloke and will be sadly missed.
